Building a community of fun, friendly and supportive members is important to us at CrossFit Hawthorn East. We’re not only helping the Camberwell and Hawthorn locals get fitter, faster and stronger – our coaches and community are there to motivate and encourage our members every step of the way. Our gym is filled with friends from all around the Boroondara area to focus on their health and fitness goals.

OCCUPATION: Podiatrist…. Yes that’s feet!
STARTED TRAINING AT CFHE: Jan 2016…..surely still classified as a newbie?
FAVOURITE MOVEMENT OR WORKOUT: hmm, still deciding but metcons I love the challenge.

WHY DID YOU START TRAINING AT CROSSFIT HAWTHORN EAST?
Haydn made me!
Haha after much thought I decided I needed a change, a challenge and coaches to push me. I knew I could be fitter, stronger and happier. I wanted to achieve new things and condition myself to get some skills back I used to be able to do. I was lost in my fitness journey and what sport was for me? I’ve found where I am suppose to be for now.
WHAT’S YOUR BIGGEST ACHIEVEMENT SO FAR?
Probably front squat and feeling my technique has improved with Olympic lifting movements as I had never really done that before.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT CROSSFIT HAWTHORN EAST?
The vibe!! The coaches, the team work, motivation and positivity. You aren’t compared to anyone but yourself, but your also held accountable so you can be better every time you turn up (if you choose to be). Everyone is supportive towards others achieving their goals, and wanting the best training environment! The workouts are never the same so i love you can’t get comfortable and have to work on your weaknesses. And the crew are always happy to support, offer advice and keep you on track when you need a push during a workout. I feel empowered to take the strength, persistence and patience with me when I walk out the door so I can improve, make changes and continue to be the person I hope to be outside the box.
WHAT IS THE MAIN HEALTH GOAL YOU ARE FOCUSING ON AT THE MOMENT?
Continuing my happy healthy lifestyle: making time for myself, technique, injury prevention and strength.
ANY ADVICE FOR ANYONE JUST STARTING THEIR CROSSFIT JOUNEY?
Listen to your body (I have been trying hard at this) and make sure you enjoy the journey, it’s more rewarding when you know you have put in the hard work rather than it being easy. No matter where you start you will improve out of sight.
Ohhh and take time to reflect: look at what you have achieved. what can you change? work harder at? and do you really want it? whether it be in fitness or life we always have choices, we often won’t realize what we can do, where we started and how great we are!
TELL US SOMETHING WE DON’T KNOW ABOUT YOU:
I went from being young and fit to spending 3 years on crutches and wasn’t sure what my physical future held for me, and now I’m 6 years on and doing more than I ever imagined.. this is only the beginning!
APART FROM CROSSFIT HAWTHORN EAST, WHERE ARE YOUR FAVOURITE HANGOUTS IN THE HAWTHORN, CAMBERWELL OR BOROONDARA AREA?
I’m a lover of a morning coffee and brunch so definitely Sardi, The Counter, The Bakers Wife. The source in Camberwell is brilliant for my random recipes. And Kula Yoga 💛 that space which creates a balance for mind and body.
